Sister's Christmas Catechism Comes to the Ordway for a Holiday Engagement

Sisters-Christmas-Catechism-Comes-to-the-Ordway-for-a-Holiday-Engagement-20010101

Sister's Christmas Catechism: The Mystery of the Magi's Gold is making its way to Saint Paul! Sister will take over the Ordway's McKnight Theatre stage December 13th, 2011 through January 1st, 2012.

It's "CSI: Bethlehem" in this holiday mystery extravaganza, from the author of Late Nite Catechism, as Sister takes on the mystery that has intrigued historians throughout the ages - whatever happened to the Magi's gold? ("We know that Mary used the frankincense and myrrh as a sort of potpourri - they were in a barn after all.") Retelling the story of the nativity, as only Sister can, this hilarious holiday production has become a yearly classic. Employing her own scientific tools, assisted by a local choir as well as a gaggle of audience members, Sister creates a living nativity unlike any you've ever seen. With gifts galore and bundles of laughs, Sister's Christmas Catechism is sure to become the newest addition to your holiday traditions.

In the role of "Sister," actress Kim Richards is elated to return to the Ordway, where she has performed many times before with the Late Nite Catechism series.

Performances of SISTER'S CHRISTMAS CATECHISM: THE MYSTERY OF THE MAGI'S GOLD at the Ordway's McKnight Theatre will run Tuesday through Sunday. Tickets start at $35; call the Ordway Box Office at 651.224.4222 or on line at www.ordway.org Group are rates available for groups of 10 or more. Call Maria at 651-238-0883 or email at sisterschristmas@gmail.com for more information about group rates,

KIMBERLY RICHARDS (Sister) Ms. Richards took her vows with Late Nite Catechism's order of funny nuns over eight years ago and has done extended tours around the country in such cities as Atlantic City (Resorts Hotel and Casino), Cincinnati (Aronoff Center for the Arts), Charlotte (Blumenthal Performing Arts Center), Indianapolis (Indiana Repertory Theatre), Kansas City (Union Station), New Haven (Long Wharf Theatre), Pittsburgh (City Theatre), and St. Paul (Ordway Center for the Performing Arts) as well as her current home of San Francisco. Kim grew up in Oakland, California, where she attended Holy Names High School for the last four of her 12 beautiful years in Catholic school. She has been performing on stage for over 35 years, the first 15 as a professional dancer, illusionist, choreographer, aerialist and comedienne. Kimberly spent her formative years in Las Vegas during its heyday in the 70's and 80's, did a Far East tour for the Department of Defense, and hung from a rope at 60 feet without a net for two years at CIRCUS CIRCUS in Reno. She has won two Drama-Logue awards and three Dean Goodman Choice awards for her acting and choreography, and has appeared in two of San Francisco's longest running hits: Bar None and Beyond Therapy. Also in the San Francisco Bay Area, she has acted in a number of plays produced by Genesius Theatre Company, which she co-founded, including The Dead Monkey, It Had To Be You, The House Of Blue Leaves, On Tidy Endings, and The Shadow Box. The company is named after Saint Genesius, the patron Saint of Actors. More recently, Kim performed in Encore Theatre's critically acclaimed world premiere of Adam Rapp's Dreams of the Salt Horse (recipient, Outstanding Performance Award). Magic Theatre credits include The Joy of Going Somewhere Definite and The Pharmacist's Daughter. Other favorites include Sex, Lies, and Zippergate (Gross National Product); Breaking Legs, the female version of The Odd Couple (The Willows Theatre); and Four Dogs and a Bone (Actor's Theatre of San Francisco). In 2009, Kimberly directed the world premiere of Pulp Scripture, by William Bivins, which swept the San Francisco Fringe Festival, winning 8 awards, including Best New Comedy. She choreographed (with Tom Segal) Abe Lincoln's Big Gay Dance Party, by Aaron Loeb, which won Best New Play in the 2009 New York International Fringe Festival. Kim is pleased that her life has come full circle from 12 years of Catholic school to dancing the showrooms of Las Vegas to playing a nun.
