Hugh Panaro is ending his run as the Phantom in Broadway's THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. Before playing the phantom, Panaro played the role of Raoul, which he played for 900 performances. As the the Phantom, Panaro played 2227 performances. His fellow cast members did the math and found that he has appeared in THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA for over 3000 performances.
A special performance of Phantom of the Opera took place at the 20th Golden Mask Awards ceremony in Moscow. The performance featured three Christine Daaes Anna O'Byrne (London), Lauri Brons (Hamburg) & Tamara Kotova (Moscow) and three Phantoms John Owen Jones (London), David Arnsperger (Hamburg), Dmitry Ermak (Moscow).
Today in 1989, Into the Woods closed at the Martin Beck Theatre (now the Al Hirschfeld Theatre), where it ran for 765 performances. Into the Woods is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine. It debuted in San Diego at the Old Globe Theatre in 1986, and premiered on Broadway in 1987. Into the Woods won several Tony Awards, including Best Score, Best Book, and Best Actress in a Musical (Joanna Gleason), in a year dominated by The Phantom of the Opera.

The longest-running show in Broadway history, Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera, directed by Harold Prince and produced by Cameron Mackintosh and The Really Useful Company, Inc., will once again make theater history when it becomes the first Broadway show ever to celebrate its 25th Anniversary on Saturday, January 26, 2013. Producers today announced an online sweepstakes to give PHANTOM 'Phans' the chance to be part of the historic night's invitation-only performance. While many of the evening's details are being kept under wraps, the special night will begin with an early 6:30 PM performance at The Majestic Theatre (247 West 44th Street), the musical's home for its entire run.
Via a global webcast this morning, The Phantom of the Opera star Sarah Brightman, will, as rumoured, indeed be travelling into space in 2014 or 2015 for ten days on a voyage that will take her to the International Space Station. It was announced at the press conference that she had cleared all necessary medical tests, and at the completion of a 2013, 5 continent, 100 city tour would go straight into 6 months of training before her space flight.
